![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Alright guys, this weekend Im gonna be refinishing my 1077XL and theres only 3 questions i have left before i take on the task. 1 - Whats a good paint for Basswood, one thatll stay pretty solid? Im going with white satin so let me know what kind would be the best to use. 2 - Where can i get autobody striping? I need black to do a black binding, so let me know whered be the best place to get it. 3 - Whats a good wood filler that can be sanded? Ill be filling in the middle position pickup route as well as the tone pot hole, and i wanna use a good filler that can be sanded down once applied. Thanks for any help ahead of time that you can give me. Its much appreciated. Ill be posting a picstory as i finish each stage of the process. Looking for an Ibanez RG970XL |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | whoa - dude - refinishing the 1077xL !! What are you gonna do about the real binding on the guitar? 1) I have painted two basswood bodies. Both used paint from hardware stores like Ace or Home Depot. I used Krylon metallic for my blue paint job. Make sure you get a primer (white - brightens up the color, black darkens the color). Take your time for the painting process. 2) I got my pin striping tape from Autozone. They have tons of colors and thicknesses. 3) Wood putty from Home depot or Ace. Just like play dough and you just shove it in the holes/gaps/inperfections and then wait 10 minutes. Then you can sand/sculpt/paint over it. |

Also do yourself a favor and get a spray paint can gun. its a plastic gun like thingy that goes onto the top of the can and saves your wrist when spraying. Also its much more even with the spray. Using white primer with white would rock. Also make sure you get a nice glossy clear coat. And apply the black pinstriping under the clear coat so it doesnt come off them. Apply a layer of clear coat let it dry for a day. Then the next day wetsand it with like 1200+. PM for more details bro. |
