![]() | There's something I can't unpack no matter how hard I try I used to have an Ibanez RG7421. After some time spent with this axe i realized that there's a kind of problem with the sound of the 7th string. ( Got my RG7421. A problem. ) Seems i've tried everything to make it sound the way i want, and did not succeed. That's why i decided it was either a problem of the particular guitar or a problem of it's combination of woods and construction. I'v sold it and got a Carvin dc727 whith is mahagony neck through mahagony body with ebony board. When I received it was a kind of shock for me to realize that it has the same shit. It sounds better of course, the 7th string has plenty of punch and defenition, BUT the problem stays. It consists of two parts: 1. When i pick a note it sounds higher than it should, and then it slowly lowers back. (but is' a common thing for any kind of stringed intrument i think, so it is not really the main issue) 2. All notes on the 7th string and some notes on other strings, especially on higher frets are very very dirty. It sounds like the tone is modulated, the lower B power-chord sound like a shitload of noise and dissonance. I had some more positive expirience using a very thick .65 or somethin string, wich actually was a bass 2nd string. But it was used to death, it had no sustain, no harmonics, just dead. But it seems it's the only way to get a sound without that harsh fart. When using any 7 string set (i tried D'addario, GHS, Everly, Elixir) i just can't make the 7th to sound OK. It sounds like the guitar is always out of tune. It is mostly audible on open 7th string and on higher frets. The power chords bring it to light and sound like i'm absolutely out of tune. This shit is heard unplugged, so it looks like it's not a problem of amp-pickups, although i play through very shitty ss amps atm. I dont really think I was lucky enough to get two guitars with the same problem, so it seems it's not a problem of the axe itself. I'll receive a dc747 (maple neck, rosewood board) in a short time, i'm gona check it, but i'm almost sure it'll be the same with it. Just can't understand how do guys from korn for instance get an absolutely clear, solid sound in A-standart, moreover they are using very thin strings. ps shit, my english is too curly, i can't describe the problem in understandable way. Hope you know what i mean. |

![]() ![]() | Are you sure it's not your technique? How hard are you picking? Does it still happen when you pick lighter? Edit: and have you re-intonated the guitar for the new strings? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I'm not 100% positive of what you're experiencing here, but have you considered that it may be a problem with how you string up your guitar? If there's too much slack around the tuning peg that's making it unstable, that could explain a lot of the tuning-related issues you're having. If you feel like spending the cash, try getting some locking tuners for one of your guitars. If you're still having these problems when there's only about 1/8 turn of string around the peg, then the bridge or something else on the guitar must be unstable. Quote:
