I'd go for one of those, too. Though without the baritone neck.

I take it you've never seen or done CNC programming dude? Ron Thorn is an engineer with the mind of a guitar-building genius (IMHO) who bases his guitar-building on the CNC machine for absolute accuracy. If he said "re-tooling the CNC to make a 7-string would cost WAY too much money for the niche market" , and he's a guy who PLAYS to the niche market, do you think it's THAT easy? CNC programming is INCREDIBLY complex and takes hours upon hours of programming to get everything right without fucking up the whole thing. Also, it takes a ton of time prototyping with the new CNC design because you can often run into issues with the programming that didn't look like they were problems previously.

I get annoyed when people talk about how easy it is to run CNC, but when you actually get to have a look at what it takes to do a SINGLE guitar via CNC (I have), you realize it's not a simple task and THAT is why they haven't (and probably won't) worked on multiple 7-string designs for everything they build. There won't be 100+ orders for a V220-7, so that's why they won't waste their time on it. Too much time and effort if there aren't enough guaranteed sales is a waste for them, I don't blame them for not running out and using all their money to program 7-string versions of all their models.

Yeah pretty much nail on the head, it's expensive as hell to re-tool the entire machine for a new design, even if it's similar to something that's already out.

Also, I agree that if they were to make a 7-string design of ANY of their models, the most sensible candidate would be their carved top model. The problem there is that they run into competition from just about every other 7-string company out there (minus Ibanez since they refuse to make an RGA-7... ) since that is one of the most popular designs for a 7: the carved-top superstrat shape. It would be cool, and you could BET if they came out with the CT-7 I'd be in line for one because I love Carvin guitars, but I wouldn't get your hopes up any time soon.
