Gauging interest: Custom guitar bodies (unfinished)
What would you folks be looking for?
I have a buddy that's a very good woodworker with an arsenal of tools. We were chatting today, and he's pretty confident that he can make just about anything in terms of guitar bodies, including JEM style monkey grips and routes and just about any neck joint. What kind of things would you guys like to see, and what would you be willing to pay for a completely custom shape/route/etc body 100% made to your specs and designs, including woods and whatnot? |

Im sure a lot of us would be interested in mahogany, swamp ash, and alder bodies myself included... In terms of pricing, his prices would have to remain competative (and below) reputable and established body fabricators. Quick turnaround times are also a huge plus. Personally, I would always be bolting Ibanez necks on to any custom bodies so they would have to be the correct spec.

I'd like a totally custom, extremely rare wood and ostrach brain guitar in the most absurd shape ever with tons of intricate design. And I'dlike it all for free. Thank you.
Actually, I'd love a Mahogany replacement for my 7621 without the hole for the tone knob. Aside from that, Ibanez specs work for me. Not sure what something like that goes for, but I'll say I'd pay up to about $300 or so. Preferably less of course ![]()

The idea is definitely to be below the average price by a decent amount.
The first thing we'll be doing will be some kind of AANJ-7 in koa, with a neck from insert_cheap_ibby here, probably a 7421 since I'll buy one at GC, part it out on eBay and just use the neck as a template.Once things are underway, I'll probably do a run of 5-Year-ss.org-Anniversary bodies and give 'em away in some kind of contest, completely finished. |

I have an Ibby neck laying around, wouldn't mind getting a xiphos style body with an AANJ and routed for an OFR or Kahler.

If he could make me a Jackson/esp/bc rich style V guitar with a neck joint like an Ibanez Jem/UV so I can bolt an Ibby 7 string neck to it. TOM, string thru, with one route for an EMG and control knobs.
Made out of swamp ash... $300 and i'd be a happy camper. A warmoth 7-string body is $200 so I think that's fair. I know they're a 'big' company, but still. He'd make a nice chunk of change. DEFINATELY keep me informed! I'm very much interested

Hell yeah Chris - couldnt have come at a better time. I have been toying with the idea myself and wanted to get a custom body made for my RG7621.
I would love an RG7/RGA7 in swamp ash/mahogany, with dual pickups, 1 vol, slot for a switch (3/5 way), UV jack and TOM and string through. Possible to have him build it so that with a standard neck he could make the scale 27"? Quote:

I think an RGA7 body would be a popular choice
