Guitar Book on 7 String Guitars

hey there fellow 7 string guitarists!

I need a little help from you all. Can anyone suggest me an ideal Guitar book regarding 7 String Guitars? Coz its been more than a year that I own a 7 stringer and still I bearly know how to use it! This makes me so madly pissed off!!!

If you could help me I would greatly appriciate!!

Thanks and keep on shredding!!

If you know how to play a six, you should know how to play a seven. It's only one extra string and it's a fourth interval just like most other strings. And, as for scales, just play the same frets on the low B as on the high B.

Yes, every scale. Have you noticed that on a standard tuned six-string, all the notes on the low E string are on the same frets on the high E string?

For example: A minor pentatonic

e------5--8--
b------------
g------------
D------------
A------------
E-5--8-------

In the same way, on a seven string, the notes on the low B string are on the same frets on the high B string.

For example: A minor pentatonic fifth position full scale ascending

e-----------------------------5-8--
b-------------------------5-8------
g--------------------5-7-----------
D---------------5-7----------------
A-----------5-7--------------------
E------5-8-------------------------
B--5-8-----------------------------

As you can see, the notes on the high E and low E are the same. And the notes on the low B and high B are the same.

They are tuned to the same note, just a few octaves apart, so ALL scales will always have the same notes/frets on both strings. If the scale uses frets 12, 14, and 17 on the high B, the same scale will also use 12, 14, and 17 on the low B.

YEP!!! this was the exact way he explained me to do it! but he said it hasn't the same pattern of a standard six string guitar!

Your version is correct, at least after a cursory glance. You are playing all the correct notes, just in a different position on the fretboard. Which is what playing a seven is all about.

Frets 13 and 15 on a low 'b' are the same nots as frets 8 and 10 on a low 'e' string - notes 'C' and 'D' respectively. Unless your teacher means you have to play at the the eighth fret for your grade two....

Regardless, you are technically correct.

OK!!! I finally understood whats the big deal with 7 string guitars!! The more I learn the more I love these f*ckin guitars!!!

Now, the f**k up is that I'm going to do an exam which is based over standard 6 string guitars!! Hell, wish they could make it easier and launch guitar examinations for 7 stringers...but whatever!!

Thanks again to everyone!!

Keep on shreddin'

Last month I took my grade 8 exam using my 7 string and I never actually touched the 7th string for the scales section and I came out with a merit overall.
If you're playing a 7 string I don't think you have to use the 7th string in the scales to get them right.
I just treated it as a 6 string guitar in that part because I didn't want the examiner to have anything to argue over and then just used the 7th string when playing the improvised solos in the songs.
