![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I was wonderin today about replacing your fretboards (or fingerboards, whichever you prefer to call em). Ive heard of people being able to have their fretboards replaced, so my question is, say i want to change my fretboard simply because i desire a different wood (ie ebony as opposed to rosewood) and no inlays, is it possible to have a tech simply replace your fretboard if you so desire? let me know if you can and if you can, what are the pros and cons of said procedure? Looking for an Ibanez RG970XL |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | 'Simply' is exactly an optimal word, but yes, you can. ![]() Pros: Well, it gets you a ebony/ maple/ bonzi/ rosewood/ etc, etc fretboard on something that wouldn't other have it. Cons: Is probably fairly expensive. (This is a total guess, but 400 maybe. Just ask around and see...) Taking it off is a procedure which takes a lot of attention. Then, he would have to prepare the new one- planing, adhering, radiusing, fretting and levelling. You've got your head down You've got your eyes closed You look so pitiful now Your body encrusted with ash Breath heavy with toxins Hair singed and matted Clothes frayed and burnt You are left with nothing |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It is qute an expensive procedure - also depending on the wood you choose to use. Ebony chews through tools like no other so will be more expensive than an indian rosewood fretboard. Assuming he was to take it on, our guitar tech would charge at least 4-5 hours labour (£120-150 = $300), and he is relatively cheap in the area. Best one around too ![]() |
