Okay, let's say under $1000. There's the Ibanez 1527, Schecter C7 Hellraiser, etc. What would you pick?

Things that slay under $1500:

Ibanez RG7420
Ibanez RG7620
Ibanez S7420FMTW
Schecter Oops, that almost slipped through there.
Ibanez UV (an old one)
Ibanez RG7321

Things that don't rule under $1500
Ibanez AX7x21
Ibanez GRG720
Carvin (@Shawn )
Fender Strat 7's (start at a mere $50,000, though)

Not sure why people are only listing Ibanez. Come on guys, don't be ridiculous. An RG7321 has no place in this discussion, the thread is "best 7 under $1500, but best 7 under $400 (which is debatable as well).

Anyways, far and away the best would be a Carvin. Nothing would come close IMO. After that, you'd be looking the ESP SC607B, Schecter Loomis, Jackson COW, Dean Razorback 7. All of those are amazing guitars. There's some "high-end" Ibanez available in the Japanese market that can be had in the $800-1200 range as well.

PS: Simon I hope you're kidding about the Carvin thing, if not... you might need to be committed

Haha, zimbloth, I'm just dicking about. That said, joking aside, I think the RG7620 does have a (somewhat small perhaps) foothold here - it is a great guitar.

Carvin...shmeh. The V220 slays - we had an original, mint in the case, original strings on it, one owner, hardly/never played, £499 ($1000), sold in 6 hours.

As for the other stuff, I don't really know

Okay, so I've opened my sights to a Carvin DC727. If I do indeed get one, are there any specs that I should be sure to get? For one thing, I'm pretty darn sure I'll want a 5 piece neck.... the mahogany neck on the Schecter C7 Hellraiser scares me with its weakness.

Also, do you think a white guitar with blackburst edges would look nice? XD
