Hey, I'll admit that Carvins aren't THE best guitars out there, but as far as not overly expensive custom 7's go, they're still on my top list! I think I just need a mahoghany or koa body Carvin with a nice top and I'd be 100% happy with another DC727!

I just thought it was funny that the whole thread turned into a Carvin discussion. It just goes to show you that their aren't enough options in the existing production market.

Pretty much man. I think one of the perfect 7's for me honestly would be a solid mahoghany EBMM JP7, but that will never happen because it's not what Petrucci likes in terms of tone.


If you're not set on the 25.5" scale, grab the Agile 7 string BARITONE model. I got to play Ed's over the weekend and with a pickup swap, those are actually damn cool once you get used to the extended scale! I was slipping a bit at first because I'm used to more standard stuff, but it was just so TIGHT on the lows!
