As an owner of a JP7 (well not for too much longer
) and having played a ton of Ibby's I'll chime in with buy the JP7. Tone and feel superior to any Ibanez I've ever played in my life. Granted I haven't played a J-Custom 7 but even so, I would assume those two aren't even close in the price range. Take everything noodles said previously as 100% truth honestly. I'm not a huge Ibanez fan even though I've owned tons of them and I'll definitely say that Ibanez don't not operate the same quality control that EBMM does. Get the JP7. ![]() ![]() |

I have to admit, this is pretty nice. The tuning keys are gorgeous, although I'm still not a huge fan of the body shape:

I suspect it has something to do with the quality plus some of the running gear they put on it, like the ivory (or similar) tuners, the bird-eye maple neck, etc. Just reminds me of my clarinet in grade school That's a good thing ![]() |

I've never tried the JP7, but I've played an OLP 6 string JP, and I really didn't like the feel of the neck. I realize that the JP7 is going to kick the shit out of it quality wise, but I really, really hated the profile, and just the way it played in general. Quality wise, the JP7 will most likely stomp the UV, but if you prefer an Ibby neck, then I doubt the JP7 will be your thing, unless you wanted to spend the time to adjust.
EDIT: And the price of that JP in the auction puts you in custom territory. I would rather put a little bit extra in money up for a custom. Probably the reason I will never own a new UV. |

Hehe I've played a couple "decent" OLPs (think they were the axis copy?) but I've heard the OLP JP model is just awful!

The JP7 is absolutely a better guitar than the UV... There really wouldn't be any kind of dilema, were you given the oportunity of playing both guitars - and I'm sure you'd get the EBMM JP!
Whilst there are obvious design differences (mainly double locking vs. standard trem), the tonewoods are the same and thus changing the UV stock Blaze for an Air Norton 7 would yield results very similar to what you experienced. Do consider the J-Customs as well, they are excellent instruments! Cheers Eske

Yeah, thanks Pablo, that was a big question for me. Personally I think basswood guitars sound fine, but that might be just my taste. But then I hear that the JP7 lacks that low end chunk to it although I'm not sure if that's more subjective than anything.
Which ever one I pick may become my main axe for quite a while, so this sure is a tough decision. I know it probably seems like no contest for you guys, but when my funds are limited and I'm crazy for both of them, this is a tough one. ![]() One of the things that attracted me about the UV is they have a lot more options for personalization or customization it seems. I see people swapping out the pickguards and knobs and pickups and such and I think that's really cool. On my EVH painted guitar I did I put my initials on the back so that kind of added another layer of cool for me. With the JP it sounds like most of the features are really tailored to that guitar and to the artist, so I dunno. Plus I can just see myself dominating a show with that amazingly flashy looking UV just like I did with my killer looking Alexi V. |
