Debate: is a seven-string necessary?

I don't understand why there should be a debate.

Drunk, messy sex with a trio of bikini models covered in baby oil isn't "necessary", but it all part of rock and roll.

More is better.

Not only is it necessary, I will postulate it is mandatory. Anything done on less than 7-strings, since 7 is the divine number of creation, cannot be legitimately considered music. It is relegated to the catch-all term "noise."

not sure if i missed it, but another thing to think about is 7 string pickups.

standard 6 string guitar pickups are generally fine tuned to capture the low E and sometimes Eb. detuning drives you into a range where the pickups weren't really meant to go. with a 7 string pickup, they're pretty much designed to handle those lower tones. granted, they may not be the greatest in comparison to 6's, but 6 string pickups have been on the market for far many more years. give it time

According to the Rules of Metal, 7 strings are:

1-True

2-Supreme

3-Badass

4-Essential

If you don't have one, you should obtain one, or better, FORGE one, and administer some heavy 7 string raffage to all those Limp Bizkit wannabes.

Well, if you look at it, anything could be "unnecessary". Even 6-strings guitars.

I just prefer driving with 5 gears rather than 4.
