You know what I wanna see?
An 8-string guitar with 36 frets (holy crap 3 octaves per string!!!):
http://www.lgmguitars.com/guitars/le...iiiathan8.html I don't think he's made any yet, but if he does, I want pics! I hate the headstock though If I were getting a custom guitar made, I'd get an 8 string like this:http://www.lgmguitars.com/guitars/cu...ic/andy_8.html Except with a more conklin-ish headstock and maybe a rosewood fretboard with vine-of-life inlays... Anyone else here floored with the prospect of such crazy custom guitars? |

You woulda dug Shannon's old 8 string.. it was basically an RG7621 with an extra string. You can find pictures at www.ekgguitars.com

You sure a 6 string 36 fret wouldn't be enough? No one can hit those uppermost notes with any clarity. Even with my small hands I'd stop at 27 frets or so.
![]() This is a Washburn EC36 btw. I remember when these first came out in the early-mid 80s and I was floored. As a kid it looked too exotic to be practical to me. |

Yeah, it's true that the frets get a bit too small, but thanks for those pics.
Don't they have extended-scale guitars with 30+ frets that actually have more frets on the low-end of the guitar rather than the high end? I think Allan Holdsworth used guitars like that... Anyway, that'd be pretty cool... Especially if they had a built-in cappo into the neck so then you could slide it around the neck and basically have a guitar with any tuning just by moving it up or down the neck... |

The guitarist in my very first band had the EC36. I LOVED that guitar & it's still on my "want list". The frets are tiny & are usable. Well, you could get up to about the 31st fret with your fingers. After that, tapping worked great for the rest of them.
It is excessive? Sure it is! But then again, 7-string players are usually more apt to indulge in excess! ![]() |

Hey did I read correctly that someone on this forum bought Rusty Cooley's 9-string? I would really like to see some pics of that...
