Question JP7 question

What kind of pickups are in the MusicMan JP7? The website just says "Custom pickups designed for John Petrucci." I know they have a "special" center position on the switch, and they're not d-sonics... What are they comparable to? Blaze7? Evo7?

You shake your ass but you're already dead.

Not sure what they are comparable to, but they are exactly what EBMM say they are, DiMarzio make them for that guitar.

JP seems to use the D-Sonic set anyway.

Plaschkes is just really nicePlaschkes is just really nice
The neck pickup is a custom wound Dimarzio, modeld after the Air Norton.

The bridge pickup used to be a custom wound Dimarzio as well, modeld after the Steve's Special, but about a year ago JP made the switch to stock D-Sonic, with the bar facing the neck on the 6 string and the bar facing the bridge on the 7 string, and therefore, so did EBMM.

Well I care enough to want them in my 7

I wish I could hear a comparison of how the D-sonics sound with the bar forward, and the bar to the bridge.

They have it in writing, kinda:

Quote:
As with the 6-string D Sonic™, the character of the sound can be altered by reversing the installation direction. This can be particularly important because of the effect it will have on the low B string. With the solid bar polepiece towards the neck, the low B will be fat and heavy. With the bar towards the bridge, the sound will be tighter with more attack. The solid bar coil is also warmer-sounding, so two different single-coil sounds are available with coil-splitting. - DiMarzio.com

^^
The only problem is everyones definition of "Fat" and "Tight" can vary.

I guess if I decide to go with that one (I'm torn between the EVO, Blaze, D activator and the D sonic... GAH!) i'll put it in, try it, loosen the strings, flip it, try it again. I wish they had sound clips like Seymour duncan has. (The sound clips they provide are mostly by artists who use these pickups, not raw files)
