I think I'm going to go with the COW.
I'm still undecided on a getting a 7-string itself, but I thank all of you for your input. It's certainly helped. |

a custom jackson is going to take more than a year to make and would probably be $4K or more.
so i think the custom jackson gets ruled out.

Try to play everything you're interested in before you make a decision. You may find that the 7321 neck isn't as bad as D-EJ says it is. It's all personal preference. Actually, you've never stated what type of neck you like, so that would help us help you.

The Jackson COW is pretty good. I've got a soft spot for Jacksons in general, but you really have to deal with the one pickup thing. I've had three COWs and I always turn around and sell them because I need a neck pickup, but I only use a neck pickup when I am twiddling around because none of my songs have solos or extended clean sections in them. Oh well. If you just want a straight metal assault a COW would work fine. Otherwise, go for a Schecter.
I have a S7320 now and it is brutal with the Lundgren M7 in the bridge, and the trem is actually really good but it does something to the tone that you probably won't like as a habitual hardtail player.
