Shipping to the UK... help!!
Hi guys,
I’m hoping that someone could perhaps help me with this. I need to get a guitar shipped to the UK, and from looking at figures thrown around in the classifieds of sites such as ss.org, it seems that you can get it done for about $120 through someone reliable such as USPS or FedEx. However, after agreeing a sale with a seller in the US over a gorgeous DC727 (which I am OH SO completely excited about!), he has obtained quotes of around $300 from these suppliers. I just went on the DHS site myself and got a quote of $299… :^( I’d imagine that the dimensions would be about 50” x 24” x 6”, and weighing in at around 20lbs, shipped in a hardcase. These figures are purely speculative though, so if they’re wrong, please do flag this up!! If anyone could help me out of my dilemma and find a company that’d do it for under $150 I would be incredibly grateful… Dan |

I got my S7420 shipped via USPS and it cost around $140 I think. Don't believe their timescales though, the actually time to get to you is decided by how long Customs let it sit in their warehouse before they can be arsed to decide how much to charge you. They generally go by the insurance value, but the value they give the item is entirely up to them. They charge 3.5% import duty (on guitars) and 17.5% VAT on the value they deem you item has AND the import duty. My S7 was insured for $1000 and I was hit for £146. The exchange rate was lower then, around $1.70=£1.00, so you'll probably get hit for less.

Thanks so much for the links guys - USPS looks great!! Well, there'll definitely be pics of this baby all over ss.org when I get it through :^D
Yeah - I'm over in Braintree. Always up for a jam! Actually, can I ask how the customs is paid? Do you have to pick the guitar up from the depot and pay then, or do you pay when they drop it off to your house? I'm expecting to pay about £100 on this - I'm paying $800 for the guitar. |

I'll let you know when I get a spare weekend then.
They send you a letter telling you how much you have to pay, and how to pay. I believe you can pay over the phone and then arrange delivery, but I've always found it easier and quicker to just nip to the nearest Parcelforce depot and pick it up. Mine's Romford, though you're probably nearer to the Chelmsford depot. |

USPS is the only way to ship guitars overseas. FedEx, UPS, and DHL completely ass rape you on shipping guitars internationally.

Dude - why the fuck would you post then? I mean its like posting just to increase your post count.
To the OP - a normal guitar in the box ranges from 18-22lbs. Double check with the seller and also make sure it is insured for its full amount. |
