i want to have a custom made guitar with a pair of lundgren m7 pickups in them is there a certain type of wood(body and neck) combination and or electronic parts that would better suit these pickups.

I'm thinking any good tone woods will work well with those. They are fairly bright so try to choose some not too bright or neutral woods (no poplar, no basswood, no maple)
Walnut is a really good tonewood and really well balanced tonaly. for the neck you could go the "standard way" with maple/ebony fretboard. I suggest you go to the warmoth website and check their woods descriptions, they are accurate. Walnut is kinda bright actually too but that's compensated by it's deepness in sound
Up the shut fuck, you must.

You can get a Mahogany body, and if you like a birght sound, a magohany body with a maple or basswood top.

I wouldn't totally trust Warmoth's warm/bright scale there- there are a lot more factors involved, and I think some of their descriptions are BS. Ebony brighter than maple, but ziricote is quite warm? Hhhmmm.

How bright would u say those Lundgrens are? Are they brighter than an evo7 or brighter than a 707? I have an rg7620 with an evo7 and an rg7620 with a 707 and the 707 is WAAAAY brighter than the evo7.

The Evo7 is the brightest pickup I've played. It was bright enough to step into that "piercing" range. The M7 has some bright frequencies, but it puts out a lot of bass as well. The Evo didn't, and I think it sounded a lot brighter than the M7 because of that. To me, M7s have a scooped sound with serious bass, powerful highs and a subdued midrange.

The evo7 I have in my rg7620 I find pretty dark, at least when I compare it to my emg 707. I don't say it's a dark pup but it's by a long shot not as bright as a 707 (it's way to bright to my taste). I use fairly heavey strings (.70) so I don't know if a pickup that's to bassy would work that well with it. How would u describe the difference between the evo7 and the lundgren soundwise? I like a big fat heavey articulate and pretty clean sound, not to scooped (I hate nothing more than a scooped dimebag like sound). I like the tone of behemoth on demigod a great deal.

It depends on the rest of your rig. I have an M7 in a basswood guitar, running into a Mesa Roadking with mids at about 12:00. I think the pickup has a scooped response, but I don't think it sounds scooped at all in my rig. I use heavier strings, 10-68 and they have a powerful sound. Its attack doesn't hit the amp as hard as the X2N in my RG, but it's about the same as the D-Activator in my other RG. It sounds clearer than both, and has a nice aggressive bite.
I don't have an Evo7 anymore, I used to have 2, but I replaced both. The Evo has the best lead tone of any pickups I've ever tried. But I've heard nothing that beats the M7 for rhythm, it does everything right. When I first got it I played it for a while and went back to my Evo equipped guitar and it sounded weak by comparison, all of the "umph" was gone. I can't compare it to the 707 because I've never had a guitar with EMGs. |
