Is the neck mahogany or maple? Huge difference. Mahogany wings on a maple neck-thru guitar don't really have a huge effect, the overwhelming majority of the tone will be from the maple.

I think you'd have to go custom.

Carvin would be the best bet anyways. You cannot beat those prices, and they're as good as anything. If they were sold in regular stores and not direct, they'd probably cost around $2000+, and they'd be worth every penny.

My custom that I ordered comes to mind... that's all. Except the custom has a UV neck with ebony laid on it so it's not neck thru.

I think you could easily do those features for significantly less. He didn't specify much else about the woods and the hardware, where all the extra cash goes. If you keep away from too much extra frilly stuff, they're pretty damn cheap.
