scab has a spectacular aura about
New vs. used (general ?'s about some thoughts I'm having)

hey guys,

i was wondering on thoughts from others on these subjects..

1) moneywise could you live with a few imperfections of a used guitar??
2) what about a restored classic that is no longer made - would you rather have the original product (paint and hardware) or a revamped of the original (new paint and hardware)??
3) If it was a custom refinish or new what is the max you'd be willing to spend??
4) what is most important to you in a guitar?? tone, looks, comfort?? or a combination??
5) would you be willing to buy a less than perfect used guitar just to get your likes of ? #4??
6) would you buy a guitar just to have it b/c of it's value or do you buy to get down and dirty with it??

thanks
Scab

1) yes
2.) depends on the condition of the original product
3.) pay it's value, if it's completely mint or hard to find a bit above value
4.) all 3 are very important to me
5.) yes
6.) to get down and dirty with it or possibility of profit for resale.

You've got your head down
You've got your eyes closed
You look so pitiful now

Your body encrusted with ash
Breath heavy with toxins
Hair singed and matted
Clothes frayed and burnt

You are left with nothing

1. Yes
2. Depends on the guitar and the quality. If it's completely beat up, then "no." If it's a guitar that I've wanted for a long time but is no longer made anymore and it's in pretty decent condition, then "yes." I would want the original paint and hardware if it was in excellent condition. If it's not in excellent condition, then I'd prefer replaced hardware and paint.
3. I would pay less than it would cost new, but depending on the condition the guitar was in, I could play pretty close to the original price.
4. All of those are equally important to me. Tone and playability are quite up there, but I can't sacrifice looks or comfortability.
5. I don't understand the question. "To get my likes"? What does that mean? I'm going to guess what you meant and answer. I would be willing to buy a slightly damaged guitar if it looked cool, had great tone, was comfortable, and played great.
6. No, I wouldn't. I only buy guitars to play. If I'm afraid the guitar is going to get damaged, I won't buy it. I'm a practical person and I only buy things to use them.

It's important to understand that I am not a collector. I am a guitarist's guitarist. I buy guitars to play them.

3-depends on the instrument.
4-comfort, tone, looks. that order.
5-without a doubt.
6-If im trying to turn around and ebay it for money, then yes. Why not?

1) Yes.
2) Depends on the condition and the "collector value". I'd rather have a beat-to-shit player guitar than pay a premium for something that's been "restored". And i wouldn't want a guitar that has "collector value" as i'd probably be too scared to actually play it.
3) Depends what it is.
4) Tone, playability, looks, in that order. But i'm also not picky. I like unique tones, not one particular one i hear in my head. If a guitar has a unique voice, i'll find a way to use it. I can also play just about anything. Looks are just a bonus.
5) Absolutely. Not one guitar i have was bought new. The last new guitar i had was my Parker, and i hardly ever played it. The only pieces of gear i own that were bought new are my studio gear, my cables, my GT-6 and my Strobostomp.
6) I buy guitars to play them.
