The most reliable/professional dealers & custom shops?
Ever since Jackson Custom shop raised prices sky high and the QC issues came about, I have been looking high & low for another custom shop to build some new 7 strings. I've also looked everywhere I can think of for existing guitars and have found a few. Here's the problem: no one emails or calls me back. I'm talking that if I get one reply from every 10 inquiries, I'm literally shocked. Or they express interest in my orders and flake out and ignore me. I also recently had a really shitty ordeal with Carvin, which was quite possibly THE most unprofessional treatment I've ever experienced from a guitar builder. I am experienced with ordering custom guitars and present myself as professionally and seriously as I possibly can. I am practically waving cash at these builders and dealers. I understand builders being back-logged and slowing down on orders. That's not the issue. It's the ones who ARE taking orders and have stuff in stock! The last few years didn't pose a problem but this year has been irritating to say the least. Is anyone else experiencing this lately? And if you're not, what dealers and custom shops in the US do you find to be ---100%--- professional and reliable? Who has and is currently making you completely happy you ordered a guitar from them? Depending on what you're looking for (and looking to spend) I'm willing to bet Jim Soloway can probably accomodate you. His guitars are just jaw-droppingly badass.

Check out KxK. I'm a Jackson guy from way back, so Rob does exactly what I'm looking for in a guitar. Just make sure to call him, since he doesn't check e-mail too much (takes time away from building guitars).
Just remember that most custom guitars are built by small builders, often times one guy doing all the work and running the business. Persistence pays off, because these guys are extremely busy. I'll go weeks without talking to Rob. Disclosure: I'm a KxK endorser. I wouldn't play the guitars if I though they sucked, though, because I was offered a Jackson endorsement.

Soloway really isn't my style, though they do look nice. I am seriously considering a KXK. I just haven't played one to know how they feel. His 7 string necks look pretty small. Are they?
I don't mind being out of contact for a while once the order is in. It's just getting anything actually bought & ordered that's been the problem! Scott |

Width or profile? Neck width is 1 7/8". He offers two different profiles: one is Ibanez-like, and the other is Schecter-like.
