Ibanez RG7421/RG7621 and swap out the pickups to dimarzios. I think those guitars are solid for first time 7s.

All the previously mentioned guitars are great choices. I'd also toss in the Jackson COW7 in the given price range. Thats a BUTTLOAD of guitar for the money if you can deal with the single EMG.

That's a Dinky, so bolt-on, right? Eh, I'd be cool with that as long as I could try it first. I already own another Jackson 6 string Dinky.

Plus, not that it's all about the looks, but that Desert Camo COW looks sweeeeet.

Indeed the camo looks even better in person. The colors are more vibrant. I just bought one from Nyck and I love it. I have a second on the way in Silverburst from Matt's Music. The carved top adds a lot of sexyness as well. Im really impressed how much guitar they packed into its pricetag.

Well, the problem with one of those COWs is that I've never seen one in a guitar store before. It would be pretty hard to find.

Let me just clarify, I'm only really new to seven strings, not to guitars. So I'd still like a the highest quality instrument i can get for the price. Thanks for the help so far.
