My first guitar teacher scored a Carvin Ultra V with Koa. He has EMG's installed and the clarity on that thing was scary, it's not screechy at all just smooth glassy highs while still being full-bodied. Amazing.

Sounds bad ass! I would say go for it.

My Carvin has the stock alder body and maple neck, and is sounds great. It has a very balanced tone. But you can't go wrong with the mahongany body & maple neck combintaion either.

I have had my Carvin for a couple of months, and it's an awesome guitar! Very comfortable due to the rounded body and the playability is just insane. I did not find a single flaw in the finish etc. so the quality is amazing. I have nothing negative to say about it except...

Like the guys said, the stock pickups are not the greatest, but they still are totally usable.

That Charvel is one sexy beast.

I always liked those koa and pau ferro Suhrs that Reb Beach plays.

Koa and maple sounds very different to one another... Have you considered walnut?
