If it wasnt the one your dad gave, i'd say go for it, but seeing as it is..

Was it a gift as in -

1: Your father bought it without you knowing and surprised you with it

or

2: You wanted a new guitar and your father gave you the money and you bought a les paul?

If its the second one it might be OK if you really wanna trade it... If it's the first one there is no way in hell you should ever get rid of that LP.

For Sale:

Ibanez RG7CT w/ UV case - $1800 plus ship/paypal

2008 PRS Custom 24 10 Top w/ case - $2200 plus ship/paypal

PM me for more information
No trades please

I would not sell it if it was something my dad gave to me as a personal present that he thought up (and Les Pauls are expensive). Well, I would never sell ANYTHING my dad gave me, partially because he passed away when I was really young, but that's just me.

Even though I love my Les Paul, I've been thinking of selling it, simply because I only play it about once a month. And there's the thing where any more than two guitars in my room starts making the room crowded (and I have 3 guitars in there now). But I don't know where I'd sell it and how much money I could get for it (it's a 5 year old guitar with some rust on it and the place where the cord gets plugged in needs to be adjusted a little).

Yep. My thoughts exactly.

I wouldn't just keep it because it was a gift. A Les Paul is a classic guitar. You have a pretty cool dad I must say

I know you made up your mind already but another chiming in saying keep the Paul. ESPECIALLY if it sounds good.... with these new "weight relief" LPs coming out you should consider yourself lucky if you snagged a solidbody that sounds GOOD! Besides, you can snag one of those UVs any day of the week, they're not going anywhere. The fact that you father gave it to you as a present should definitely add to the significance of the guitar IMHO.

My girlfriend gave me a PRS Singlecut SE for Christmas last year and I was shocked at how lucky I got to receive one of the best playing and sounding guitars I've ever owned in a $500 guitar. I got lucky I guess, plus since she gave it to me as a present it's even more reason to hang onto it just out of sentimental value, but the thing plays really well and sounds amazing. I've had people comment constantly when they play it just how cool it is. If this is at all the same for you, there should be no reason to get rid of it.

keep it, there are a great many UVs floating about on the market, but if you lose something with that kinda sentimental value it'd be irreplacable...

I'd never sell the Ibanez GSZ my girlfriend bought me for Xmas a year or two ago...even though I don't use it too much, it's still a nice guitar to practice on and it'd be disrespectful in the extreme to sell it out of hand

Godforbid anything happened to my dad, I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I traded the Gibson away. It will always be good for some downtuned riffage anyway, even if it is 100 pounds. Again, you guys are right, even though I don't play it enough, it will always have sentimental value. Maybe I'll even give it to my son, one day.

Besides being a gift from your dad, there is nothing special or rare about the UV777BK model that you would be trading. I would definitely keep the LP as it came as gift from your dad.
