I've played a couple of them and really didn't care for them. They have nice neck profiles and a nice overall design, but the ones I played had poorly leveled frets and didn't sound all that hot. Probably a combo of having sucky pickups and a body made out of something weird--cherry, I think. At least you can replace the pickups. They really need more low-end, so you might want to consider a Tone Zone-7 for the bridge. With a fret-dressing and better pickups, it might be a pretty damn nice guitar.

Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high,
Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie,
Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally.
Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee
Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread
Its branches like a Temple overhead.

Doctor J is on a distinguished road
Heh heh, I've already sorted out a TZ7 and AN7 thanks to Eric

I believe installing a Floyd is straightforward enough on them and it wouldn't be the first fret job I've had to do. Bring it on

Hey! thought I would pick the scab on this thread. I had posted earlier on a thread about some Conklin Groove tool bass's my shop got in. I'll update that thread in a moment.

Now that the smoke has settled at work,,, I found a Conklin GTG-7T laying in the back. Appears in descent shape. The neck looks good, it has a very slight heel crack ( similar to the jems ) totally fixable. However it is stripped. It needs tuners ( sperzels ), pickups, and a trem. Electronics are there but the cover is gone,,, that is no problem either I can make a new one.
So now the problem is,,, due to the fact we so seldom get these things,,,no one can find a price list. I've been searching the web trying to find them,, and god damn it's like the barely exist. I can get a great deal on it, because it's stripped. I'm concerned about the trem? I seem to remember somewhere that they used some oddball trem,,,top notch I'm sure. It would be a wilkenson style trem,,but I don't know if a wilkenson would be a match. Anyway,,,if any of you can point me in a direction to find pricing and parts I would totally appreciate it. I'm trying to rescue this thing,,because,,,well it's a 7 string. I would like to get the information so that I can approach my boss and state a good case to take this thing off his hands at a fair price to all.

Thanks..
~A

Have you e-mailed Conklin about it? They don't make those guitars anymore, but I bet they'd be willing to help you with specs on the parts you'd need. I think the trem is probably some kind of standard Gotoh unit, but I'm not 100% sure on that. The electronics cover you'd almost certainly have to get from Conklin.

Right on,,, actually funny thing,,,I called Conklin today and talked to Bill. He gave me the skinny on the Groove tool thing and it's fading out process of the Groove tools line. He hooked me up with pricing and where to get bridge for that giant 7 string bass. He also told me that the Wilkinson and the gotoh trems should work. He didn't really care much for the trems that were stock on the GTG7-T's. So yeah,,,, things are working out good. I am actually going to buy the GT7 for a mear song and a dance. I will be putting it together as a side project. I won't know until I play it whether it's a keeper or not. If not I will post here for a great price!
