I've played a couple of them and really didn't care for them. They have nice neck profiles and a nice overall design, but the ones I played had poorly leveled frets and didn't sound all that hot. Probably a combo of having sucky pickups and a body made out of something weird--cherry, I think. At least you can replace the pickups. They really need more low-end, so you might want to consider a Tone Zone-7 for the bridge. With a fret-dressing and better pickups, it might be a pretty damn nice guitar.

Heh heh, I've already sorted out a TZ7 and AN7 thanks to Eric
I believe installing a Floyd is straightforward enough on them and it wouldn't be the first fret job I've had to do. Bring it on ![]() |

Hey! thought I would pick the scab on this thread. I had posted earlier on a thread about some Conklin Groove tool bass's my shop got in. I'll update that thread in a moment.
Now that the smoke has settled at work,,, I found a Conklin GTG-7T laying in the back. Appears in descent shape. The neck looks good, it has a very slight heel crack ( similar to the jems ) totally fixable. However it is stripped. It needs tuners ( sperzels ), pickups, and a trem. Electronics are there but the cover is gone,,, that is no problem either I can make a new one. So now the problem is,,, due to the fact we so seldom get these things,,,no one can find a price list. I've been searching the web trying to find them,, and god damn it's like the barely exist. I can get a great deal on it, because it's stripped. I'm concerned about the trem? I seem to remember somewhere that they used some oddball trem,,,top notch I'm sure. It would be a wilkenson style trem,,but I don't know if a wilkenson would be a match. Anyway,,,if any of you can point me in a direction to find pricing and parts I would totally appreciate it. I'm trying to rescue this thing,,because,,,well it's a 7 string. I would like to get the information so that I can approach my boss and state a good case to take this thing off his hands at a fair price to all. Thanks.. ~A |

Have you e-mailed Conklin about it? They don't make those guitars anymore, but I bet they'd be willing to help you with specs on the parts you'd need. I think the trem is probably some kind of standard Gotoh unit, but I'm not 100% sure on that. The electronics cover you'd almost certainly have to get from Conklin.
