You can get a .70 in a guitar string with a standard size ball end. I use 11-70, tuned standard. Once I get my baritone, I MIGHT step it down to 10-64/68. I tried the optimum tension set, and I liked the tension, but since I bought them bulk, they weren't in D'addario's plastic bag thing to keep them fresh, and they seemed dead almost instantly, like I got an old set that had been sitting around.

i use GHS boomers 9-42 and a 58 for the B. other strings seem dull sounding, especially ernie balls.

Elixir 010-052's and a 068 which I buy as a single. On my 25.5" seven they feel just great, and I can tune to drop A or ADADGBE without any problems. Currently the guitar's tuned down half a step (I'm playing Meshuggah) and it feels good too. I tried a GHS 070 single for the B too, but it was shit. It sounded and felt good for about two days, after that it felt and played like a rubber band. It was surprisingly expensive too, as it was nearly as expensive as two 068 Elixir singles. No GHS for me ever again. I love Elixir!

I think I'll be using 010-046's and a ~060 B on my 27" custom seven though. Or then the same 010-052's and 068 but tuned to A or G#.
