What do I do?!
So, I went to Ishibashi today to buy some strings and Dunlop Fretboard 65 ULTIMATE Lemon Oil (it's so ultimate) and I wandered over to the Ibanez section and looked at the 7 strings like I always do. I got a hankerin' t' play their RG7EX (and two other letters after that I don't remember). It's a 27.5" or 28" scale if I remember correctly. The only extended range guitar I'd ever played before had been the Hellraiser which is 26.5" and I thought it was "okay." Cool, but I liked my RG1527 much more. Well, this RG7EX has EMGs as well (707s I believe), different inlays, is a hardtail (which is a plus because my other seven has a trem and I've been wanting a hardtail seven), and is in black (which is always a plus for me, black being my favorite color). So, I tried it out and, while I did not like the cleans on the Hellraiser, I LOVED the cleans on this guitar. They sounded so crisp and clean and clear. The strings were dang tight, which was both a positive and negative thing in my eyes. I played some of my songs low on the fretboard and there was some extra stretching required, but no big problem. The soloing hiiigh up on the fretboard was actually easier than on my 1527 (because the frets are actually bigger). I thought it had a really nice BIG sound when distorted with very clear notes. I'd never been an EMG fan, but I thought this guitar sounded AWESOME. I'm not sure if it's because of the baritone scale or the EMGs - or a combination of both.
I have about $1500 in my bank account that I'd been planning on spending on a new computer (since my current computer was bought about 3-4 years ago), but this guitar has been the first guitar I've seriously thought about buying since I bought my RG1527 (which I knew I was going to buy from the first time I played it. This RG7EX is pretty awesome, but I'm really not sure whether to buy it or not). And the RG7EX right now is cheaper than it normally is and I can buy it for about $770-$800 (I'm guessing since I'm not exactly sure what the exchange rate is right now). I'm betting that most people are going to tell me to BUY IT NOW since this is afterall sevenstring.org that we're talking about here. I told the other guitarist in my band about it and he said "Buy the RG7EX now and buy the computer when you've saved up enough money for it! You're a pretty cool guy, so I bet you'll buy both of 'em." Of course, I don't have money to buy both of them now... I guess I'm just waiting for you guys to push me over the edge into buying it or pull me back and say "Hey, don't get it. The computer is more important." If I do buy the RG7EX next week and start saving up money, I can probably buy a computer in 4-7 months from now (depending on how much I manage to save each month and how expensive of a computer I buy). What do I do?! ![]() |

Buy the guitar. You can find a computer anywhere, but a guitar with that kind of tone doesn't come along everyday.

You probably know yourself if you really need the computer so much you could spare a guitar. Since Ive never seen your computer and have no idea what you use it for this desicion is kinda hard for me to comment on. Id say buy whatever you need the most!
A new guitar is always nice though. So after some thought... You could buy the guitar so that you can make a pictory!

Dude, get the guitar.
Think about it. If you get the guitar and save up 4-7 months for a computer, then you'll have a much better computer than if you bought it now. Computer technology evolves so fucking quick. However, if you get the guitar, it'll be just as fucking awesome and won't be "obsolete" in 4-7 months. |

My computer isn't horrible. The CPU is 2.1 Ghz and has 256 MB of RAM, a 40GB harddrive (yeah, pretty small by standards nowadays), a 16MB video card/3D graphics card, and a DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive. I was thinking of getting a PC with a 1.7Ghz CPU (a downgrade in a way, but I almost never see laptops with over 2.1Ghz CPUs nowadays. Don't know why. The PC I bought 3-4 years ago had a 2.1Ghz CPU), 1GB of RAM, 120GB harddrive, a 64MB video card/3D graphics card, and a DVD-RW drive (which Yodobashi Camera has for about $1100-1200 right now)... but my current computer is fine for everything I use it for except home recording (with my guitar) and playing new computer games (which I tend to use my PS2 for). So, yeah, I could buy this guitar and wait 4-7 months and buy a better PC than I could now. I'm still thinking about it. Still kinda not sure what to do. But right now I'm leaning towards the guitar. You know how it goes. You just start wanting it more and more. ![]() |

* NegaTiveXero nudges Naren further towards the 7.
Trust me, you won't regret getting the guitar now and the computer later. |
