If you reallyreallyreally want the guitar, and you can live with your current computer for a while, just get the guitar. But if you absolutely MUST have a new computer right now, then the guitar should wait.

EDIT - Isnt it better to upgrade your PC instead of buying a new one ?
The other guitarist in my band just e-mailed me saying (my translation), "That, my friend, is what we call 'love.' Since we're gonna be having practice tomorrow in Ikebukuro, just buy the guitar after practice is done. I'm gonna be buying a new guitar case anyway." and I just replied saying, "It'd probably be hard to carry the guitar home along with my GNX, backpack, and RG1527, but you're REALLY tempting me."

Actually I can't really upgrade my PC since it's a laptop. And the next PC I'm planning on getting is also a laptop. I've moved 4-5 times in the last 5 years, so I've learned that laptops are better than desktops and I tend to take my laptop with me to a lot of places.

But, I am starting to think that I should buy this guitar in the next 2-4 days... I think it's partially because of you guys and partially because of the other guitarist in my band (and, of course, mainly because of me. )

Well, I certainly don't envy you here (other than the obvious envy of being able to go to Ishibashi and play guitars. ).

I guess I would ask the following question: Is the desire for a newer computer out of necessity (for school or work, inadequate performance) or is merely for the sake of newer/faster?

If the answer is "out of necessity", get the computer. I'm guessing you've been saving for almost a year (based on recouping 800 in 4-7 months if you buy the guitar) and it's wise to follow your plan. If the answer is "newer/faster", and your computer will suit your needs for the next 7 months (worst case), get the guitar.

You seem extremely responsible and budget-minded. Let those qualities guide your decision (this advise is advance payment for free guide services if I ever visit Japan ).

If your bandmate wants to help so much, suggest that he buy the guitar and you can pay him back in 4-7 months.

The reason I want the computer is not out of necessity. My current computer works fine for the internet, for almost anything work related - other than the actual playing of the games involved (if I had to work at home), etc. I really want a new computer for one that is faster, has more disk space, more memory (RAM for recording at home), and such so that I can play newer computer games on my computer.

I even told my girlfriend about it and she said that if I don't really need a new computer right now I should go ahead and get the guitar.

I checked on the internet and it's the Ibanez RG7EXFX, which is a 27" scale with an EMG81 in the bridge and EMG85 in the neck with a basswood body, a maple/walnut neck, and a rosewood bridge with offset inlays (which I think looks pretty cool), black hardware, a "black pearl" finish, and a fixed bridge.

I found this site with pics of it: Ibanez RG7EXFX (the price that I saw at Ishibashi that tempted me is about 24,000 yen cheaper than the one listed on this site)

I believe I'm going to buy it tomorrow (since my band's guitarist convinced me even more).

I'll make a picstory.

Just upgrade the ram in your laptop (should be under $100) to get up to 1 gig.
Its super easy on a lap top, usually there is a compartment that unscrews from the back and you just pop it in, you can check what type of ram you need from crucial.com and order it from newegg.com

And then buy the guitar

best of both worlds.

Also its very easy to upgrade the hard drive in a lap top as well.
