There's a difference between "overly bright" and "super clear". The pickups for one thing make a lot of difference.

Bulb's 8 string is all maple. The Illustrated Luthier . com

The ZR-7 still remains an elusive beast - while technically available as a spare, most luthiers (KxK in particular) may not fit it as it is in Ibanez branded part.

Other than that, sounds great. Go for it.
