For the love of god, convince me not to do this...
OK I've been thinking for almost a good year now about what to replace my deceased RG1527 with. I've been thinking. And thinking. And thinking. And here's what I came up with.
I would HAVE to go custom. No one makes anything like what I want. Custom is a must. I've asked around a few luthiers. I'm thinking Shamray. Anyways, here we go. My ultimate guitar! * Superstrat shape -- RG with an extra deep cutaway (ie Rusty Cooley) * Maple body * Flamed maple top, transparent black stain * Ibanez Edge Pro 7 or ZR 7 trem * Original Wizard profile or Wizard II neck, AANJ, bolt on * 18" fretboard radius (super flat) * Blank ebony fretboard, aluminum side dots * Dunlop size 6000 frets * One volume, one tone, push-button momentary killswitch * HHS pickup configuration * Lundgren M7 - BK Holydiver - BK Trilogy Suite * 3-way switch I've been considering a scallop too though I don't think it's necessary with size 6000 frets, except it looks awesome. I'm worried about doing it on a neck so thin too. Basically I'm modeling the looks after this: RG8427F_BX Ran guitars said they'd do it for 2480 euros bridge and pickups included (ACK!!! EXCHANGE RATE). Shamray would take a good $2500, and I'd have to track down the bridge myself. Argh.... why oh why is gear so expensive!?!? Plus, I hear Ran takes forever. Sigh...
Whether it's laughable or irrational, this is the path that ALL great men walk!
If there's a wall in our way, we'll destroy it! If there's no road, we'll pave it with our own hands! The magma in our hearts is blazing like flames! Who the hell do you think we are? |

Sounds good. However, how does the fretboard radius in inches equal out to it's flatness? Never understood that. Have fun with an all maple body.

The radius is equivalent to a circle whose radius is listed, so 18" radius would be a 36" wide circle, the arc of the circle is the "radius" of the fretboard. It's not a "guitar" term but the term of where it comes from.

Try KxK. You could get it with a FR, and it'd probably be a bit cheaper than Shamray or Ran. If you want the body to look like that RG8427 you would need a natural binding around the body. One of the best features of that guitar.
Id love that config, not the maple though. ![]()

DAMN THATS EXPENSIVE!!!
I would have taken a darker sounded body wood insted of you, alder or mahagony (both with maple tops)... and insted of you i would have consider buying a guitar and customize it... |
