You might just have more of a "hit or miss" factor with Squier.
Possibly, personal taste is a big factor as well.

There are very few production guitars that aren't "hit or miss". Some factories just produce a few more "misses" than "hits". There are some very good Squiers and some very good Epiphones, but both brands also make some junk.

Personally, i've found some great tone and playability in guitars that many would consider to be "mediocre". My main guitar is a Music Man only because it's the only guitar that can do what i want. I love my Danelectro and my Squier, too, because they get sounds that none of my other guitars can get.

It's not going to make anyone sell their 7620's just yet, but if you like the strat sound then it's a perfectly cool guitar, especially at the price.

You could do a double blind test with a Squier and an American Strat and not be able to tell the difference in some cases. You can get a decent guitar from almost any legit manufacturer these days, what you pay most for is the brand name on the guitar.

Man, I haven't been home much at all since we talked, dude, and this week is shaping up to be hellish. I won't be around this weekend, either. :/

I have never played a Squier that I couldn't easily distinquish in a double-blind test, dude - they're just spec'd way too differently. 21 fret necks, 6-point trems... Make it a Squier against a Mexi strat and I'll buy that. But not an American.

Now, finding one that you like more than an American - sure, it's rare with Squiers, but possible. Ditto with Mexican strats, just less rare.

quit jerkin' around... We all know Epiphone guitars sound better and play better than most Squire guitars...

And let me say that I own a Fender strat u.s. model, and I'm no gibson man.

Cheers!

Most of the squiers i've played are pretty nice.

Epi's i've played have sucked.

Actually, there's been good & crap on both sides. Given the choices, i'd take a Squier Strat VII over anything else by either epi or squier, or a good chunk of gibson & fender.
