zak is a jewel in the rough
Ibanez 7 recommendation...

Hey, heres the situation. I've been playing guitar for 3 years, and I've decided to save up for a 7 string. Now I don't want to go out and spend 2 grand on a guitar. I've played a few different models, and came to the conclusion that I'd get the RG7321. But since my parents won't let me get A new guitar for a few weeks/months, the thought came to my head to purchase a better quality one. So I've been researching the RG1527, I wanted to know what people would recommend, I've heard outstanding things about both guitars (except for the pickups on the 1527, but if I notice the quality I'll get different ones). Any thoughts/words of advice would be appreciated.

Do a search on these guitars. They are plenty of "recommendation" threads on here.

and welcome!

I don't think you could go wrong with the 1527 instaed of the 7321.

I own an RG1527, and it truly is an astounding guitar, definetly the best guitar I currently own. It's true though, the pickups aren't that great at all.

You're right, but to be honest, I thought they were pretty decent for Ibanez pickups. They have a nice sound to them, albeit a bit dark. They sounded really dark in my S7420 (the S series 7-strings come with the same pickups as the RG1527) when I bought it, and I eventually changed them out. Fellow SS.org poster, Flesh-Eating Monkey, has a 1527 as well that he put an evolution in and an air norton, and it honestly sounds like God. Great sounds from those pickups. It actually inspired my to put that same config in my 7620, which I'm doing now.

The RG1527 is a funny guitar. It's got basically the same specs as the old 7620, but with a slightly upgraded paintjob (albeit no variety to choose from), worse pickups, and it has the word "prestige" painted on the headstock. Otherwise, basically the same guitar. Oh, and they charge twice the going rate for a used, perfect condition 7620.

Yup, I recommend the rg1527 over the rg7321. I originally bought the 7321 at guitar center and returned it for a 1527. I can't comment on the stock pickups-- I replaced them with the Dimarzio's before even trying them. They probably are a good "every music" type pickup capable of achieving decent tones for most styles. The combo of Air Norton/Evolution really does sound like God.

Although the last time I heard God he sounded like Alanis Morissette...
