Taking the 7 to college?
I own an S7320, as well as an S520EX, and a gio RG...I am heading off to college in a few months, and I will be living in the dorms. I was just wondering if it's a good idea to take any of these along, I play everyday and don't want to quit, but I also don't want anything to get stolen. I also have a 5150 head and a mesa boogie cab, and have decided I definetly can't take those, so maybe a combo instead? If so what combo would you reccomend?...I play metal.
Thanks, Ibanezplayer |

Take the 7 and buy a lock and a hardcase? I knew a guy who brought a long a Spector 5-string bass, an EBMMJP6, a Mark IV and a Laney 4x12 cab to uni and lives in the dorm. Crazeee stuff.
What price range are you looking to spend on a combo? ![]() |

Definately bring it.
For dorm life you want to keep things pretty mellow when doing stuff actually in the dorm, so maybe a Roland micro cube? Those have a pretty decent sound for bed room practice levels, and can be had for a pretty low cost. That brings up another question. Do you plan to do any public performing or gigging while attending college? I guess you'd also need a larger amp for that if so.

I currently have my Schecter C1+ (*2004 edition*) and my pod xt live. I run the pod Line Direct into my computer that i spent two days and 3000$ building last summer. I have a 1/4 inch imputs as part of my aftermarket sound blaster card and 5.1 surround sound speakers.
Solved my problem for a combo... Next year im thinking about just buying a 2X12 cab and bringing my Tube poweramp.... * i will have room if i stick my dresser in the closet. Everyone is pretty chill during the mid-day hours.. |

I brought a Gibson Les Paul and a Legend 1x12 combo to my dorm room many years ago and had no problems. I also had a Carvin X100B head/4x12, but I kept that in the dorm's locked practice room. Too heavy to steal.
![]() I didn't turn it up much in the dorm, but we used to set up my 1x12 combo in the window after dark, plug in a microphone, and insult passing pedestrians at extremely high volume. Totally sober, of course. ![]()

Thanks for all the help...yeah I'm definetly gonna get a case with a lock, the rooms I'm in have open closets with a curtain that runs over them. The combo I want to be able to practice on in my dorm room, as well as going to the music room in the commons, and finding some people to jam with. If it gets to a point where I find myself playing live, I think I'd run home and grab the head and cab. I only live two and a half hours away from campus, so it's far but not too far.

For a small portable combo, a Tech-21 Trademark 30 can't be beat.
As long as you're not an idiot with your stuff, you should have no problems having quality gear at school. At my peak, I used to have a RG7620, an RG2027, and my USA strat in my dorm room, plus a Mesa combo. I never had any issues with it, but I also didn't leave my door unlocked when I wasn't there or anything, either.

Man, i dunno, but i think its FAR better to live off campus. thats what i'm doing. It costs a bit more, but the privacy is worth it.

That's all true, but you can't beat living in the dorm your first year of college for making friends and partying. That's how I joined my first (and so far only) band. Living off campus, you're kinda stuck on your own unless you can get a good group house going.
