Considering turning the RG7620DY into an RG7550DY (new fretboard?)
So Im waiting to get my DY 7620 body back from Sims but now Im thinking that the project could go a step forward and I could make it an RG7550 with a maple fretboard and a black pick guard. The only issue is that I would need to find someone who could put a maple fretboard on my existing RG7620 neck. Does anyone do this and how much does it cost. Also, would I go with flatsawn maple or quartersawn? I remember seeing photos of a 550 RI and it looked like the fretboard was quartersawn. Any ideas?

Its preatty simple to get the one thats already on there off, and to get the new one on.
But fretting is the issue. To get bored off you take a old tee shirt that you got laying around, a hammer, a iron, a razor blade and a paint scraper. What you do is let the iron heat up and make sure you have water in it and what not, then take the iron and lay the tee shirt over the butt end of the neck and begin to let steam flo onto the end. After leaving it there for about 2 min. Take your razor blade and hammer and tap the razor right in between the line of the fretboard and actual neck. Then all you have to do is keep steaming along the sides of the board and using the scrapper, shimmy the board and keep steaming then just push the scrapper along until you reach the end of the neck. DONT START AT THE NUT END, BEACAUSE YOU WILL BREAK THE BOARD AND ITS A PAIN IN THE ASS TO GET THE REST OFF. Then just take the new board and glue and clap it on then get it fretted and your set. That probley didnt help haha. |

Im definitely not doing it myself. I would rather pay someone else who has experience to do it so I get something that works rather than something that looks and sounds like shit.

Where does the RG7550 reference come into it?
Is that one of the limited run 7's Ibanez made a while back? |

Thats what it would become - an RG7 version of an RG550.
