Trust your ears.

In life and music, what is is but that doesn't always mean it's what it should. Change, is in our hands.

you're one note shy of playing standard tuning (for a 7) up a half step. why leave the G as it is? I've often wondered why I never hear of people tuning up (aside from some open tunings), but i suppose most people who'd want to go higher do just use capos.

Extra finger positions. If you wanted to do an Em shape in that position on all 7 strings, its simply:

-2
-0
-0
-0
-2
-2
-0

If you wanted a Bminor in standard 7 string tuning, you'd have to do
-2
-3
-4
-x
-2
-2
-0

or something like
-2
-3
-4
-4
-2
-2
-0

Or some variation. even if you tuned BEADF#BE, you could use the first shape and its WAAAY easier.

It's funny you mention that, as I recently had an idea for a 'lute guitar'; a 23.75" scale electric instrument tuned GCFADG (same as standard six-course lute tuning). It would have the fingering advantages of me an MK's new tunings, but also the advantages of a shorter scale (big stretches and bends FTW!!!)...

Nothing like a good depressant to chase the blues away!
