Houston, we have pickups.... (56K... safe for now...)
Well I spent the better part of my late afternoon/evening (I had to work an 11-hour shift to make up for missing hours on Monday
 ) cleaning my S7420, drilling out the pickup cavities ever-so-gently (yeah, I finally broke down... thanks for the final push guys!  ) and then wiring up the pickups. I just sat down to test them, yep we have full sound in all five positions!!! I took a few shots of the work in progress and I'll take some more later this weekend to complete the picstory!  Here is the start of my S7420FMTT upgrade:She's a beauty isn't she? Thanks for taking good care of her for me Steve-o (Technomancer, he rocks for selling me such a CLEAN guitar! If he says it is near mint, you can take that to the bank!  ) Yep, the camera loves her.... work it... work it!!!  Say goodbye crappy stock pickups.... bah, fuck you and your cursed tone of utter mediocrity!  Seymour Duncan JB7/Jazz7 set FTW!!! Grabbed them off of a TGP member BRAND NEW!  He special ordered them from Guitar Center for his Ibanez but he decided to give up 7's so they wouldn't accept the return! I scored them for $30 less than they cost new!   Magnetic changable tip screwdriver to save the day! It makes quick work of those pesky backplates!  Well at least Ibanez wired it up neatly.... some of the more recent stuff I've seen from them looks like a rats nest! Ick!   The saga will be continued later this weekend when I set up the guitar and upload the new pictures from today (and the pics to come), gentlemen...   |

Aaaaaaand I'm back with more pics for you guys!
I had some foam left laying around so I cut it around the silhoutte of the pickup and punched a tiny screwdriver through the holes where the pickup screws would fit. Then I tapped the screwdriver through the mockup to make the holes on the pickup route like so:    This is a great specimen of the S7420! Great flame, figured mahoghany back (forgot to grab a pic but it would look better out in sunlight anyways!) and a very nice rosewood board! Note the TRS trem bar I just picked up from Drache, thanks again for selling it to me without making me buy the whole TRS bro, you rock!    Check out that rosewood fretboard! Looks great after a nice oiling!  Then I took my new power drill and drilled out the holes with drill bit # 2. Turns out #2 is the SAME size as the pickup screws, so I had to hit up # 3 to make sure it was big enough to allow the screws to fit down into the holes!  Great success!!! Just a few shots of the headstock, love the chrome logo! Sharp!   I'll take the rest of the shots this weekend once I get some strings on her and do a little setup! Enjoy! |
