Tuuuuuning up.
So like i said in the other thread, i took my S7320 and bought some new strings for it.
I bought a EB set of 8-38 and a low 46. Tuned it to D standard with a G string. My first impressions are that its pretty badass. Its nice being able to go normally into 24 fret range and beyond on it. the chord thing is where it really shines though. Being able to get a regular open D Major with a D thats normally on the 10th fret, in a standard open position is REALLY cool sounding. It makes having bigger, more full sounding chords a bit more practical than using a low b. if i were ever to get an acoustic guitar for it, i'd use this tuning exclusively. It also works great for doing shredly arpeggios. you can get that 12 th position A Minor all the way up to a high C (or E if you tap it) with barely any effort at all. i could forsee this being a very useful lead tuning. I cant really see any cons for this tuning so far. the only gripe is that it takes getting used to having a string above your E, but after messing around with it, you 'get' it. As far as using an .008 for a G, i think it feels looser than a 9 in E, actually. if it isnt tension wise, it definately still FEELS that way. its a really tiny string, no issues bending or staying in pitch at all. after this, i'd imagine standard tuning with a high A would be EASILY done with a .007 guage string. sounds great! What do you normally use as a low B string gauge? 46 for D standard sounds kinda flimsy...

depends on the guitar. .064+
On my conklin, i have a .050 for Eb. But i was just going by what was with the set of strings. If i had a tension calculator with me and a selection of any strings i wanted, i'd have probably done it a bit different. |

I use either 9-42, 9-46, or 9.5-44 for a DADGBEG tuning. The .008 is tight but confortable.

metal ken, thats all i use for my strings is the 008-38's(and ofcourse my b string bought individually), everyonce in a while i would mess with tunning up, but garry goodman told me that his high a strings he gets are actually 008's , i'm sure they are made from something different, but it was a little morsel of info

Glad to see people having luck with this. I tried it with a 7620, and after the .008 popped for the 4th time I surrendered.

Ken is it harder to pick on the .008? Like do you feel you have as much control over the string as you would with any other string?
