Drop-C Tuning on a seven?
Hey guys. I was jamming with a friend of mine on some metalcore. He doesn't have a seven and he usually tunes to Drop-C. I tried out CCGCFAD today, and I'm wondering if there's a better way to approach it with the 7th string. It actually sounded pretty cool, I'm just wondering what else I could use.

You could tune it to G or go loco like Bob and tune it to F.

It's pretty fun. Baritone triads on the bottom 3 strings using 2 fingers = pretty cool. LOTS of major/minor riff ideas open up with this tuning, too.

I just realized I play a similar tuning all the time already: GDADGBE I feel a little slow tonight
![]() The F is sounding brutal, but these cheap-o pickups in my $99 Washburn dont do it justice. |

Yeah. It sounds pretty brutal tuning down to FCGCFAD. Sounds like your intestines are about to be ripped out.
I think that kind of a tuning is good if you don't plan of riffing off the low F all the time. If you plan on playing the majority of songs in C (or simply off the low C string), it can be pretty cool. It you just play off the F... it'll suck big time. Quote:
You have the 7th and 6th string tuned to the exact same note, not in octaves or anything, but the exact same note.My personal recommendation would be either GCGCFAD or FCGCFAD for tuning a 7 in drop C. Or you could go the high route and go CGCFADG. Last edited by Naren; 05-28-2007 at 02:50 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Ah, yep! Same tuning, just up a step. That's pretty cool, Bobby.

My ex-guitarist uses an interesting tuning for his new band. It's a Drop B tuning on the low 6 strings & a high F#.
You could use that premise by going with a Drop C tuning & a high G. ![]() |
