Satch and his JS-7 proto

Snapped a few of these about a year ago, when Satriani did his clinic at Daddy's Junky Music in Boston, and only got a way to share them now.

Mike Manning tuning up a chrome, with the 7 in the guitar rack:

Joe showing off the 7.

Joe showing off ON the 7

And again...

These are slightly blurry - I took about half the photos without a flash (as I was REALLY close, and that's kinda rude), and half with, but you get the picture... This was before he got his red JS7, and back when the body contours were still pretty rough.

Talked to Mike Manning a bit after the show (he was smoking a cigarette outside), and asked him if there was any chance the 7 would hit production. He was surprised, and seemed to think it already was. Oh well.

His JS looks cooler as a 7-string, really. I didn't think he did clinics anymore. Bet he got paid STUPID MONEY to do this!!

Yeah , this has " 7 string JS" talk has been floating around for some time now. It's exciting to finally see some good pics.

I remember hearing that it was in " production" about a year and a half ago. I don't think anybody really knows for sure..

ive been wishing for a 7 string JS or radius model since the first time i saw the body shape. and we've been on talking about a production model on jemsite since as long as i've been posting there at least. i remember seeing someones one off custom (i think it was turqouise) but a real official JS7 *messes in pants*

"are there gonna be snacks? i heard there were gonna be snacks."

Very cool pics, D. Thanks for sharing them! I love that JS-7, man. Not to mention his Chromeboy. There are some pretty cool guitars in the background too.

Cool pics!

There is an interview on the Ibanez site where he talked about getting them to make him one. I never actually thought it would see the light of day!

A proto is allways easy to make as they can be hand crafted, it is the retooling for industrial production that often causes porblems because of the uncertainty of sales vs. initial investment...

Trust your ears.

In life and music, what is is but that doesn't always mean it's what it should. Change, is in our hands.

Yeah, I think the guy who had the custom made was "goldboy" on Jemsite. I've still got the sound samples he posted somewhere around here...the thing sounded beautiful, with the Duncan pickups and I believe mahogany body with maple top.
