Ordering from Ikebe - full cost of import?

When importing a guitar from Japan what extra charges would you have to take into consideration?

And for an example if you bought an item that was £500 or $500 after the price was converted from Yen, what would you estimate the overall added cost could be after everything has been added together?

Coming from the same country as you, this interests me too. There are a ton of awesome guitars on Ikebe, but I really need to know the amount of money I'll need before I can order one.

Yeah, all the guitars are very cheap after the price has been converted, I’m just waiting to find out what the catch is

I actually send an email to Ikebe earlier and asked about the added costs, hopefully I should get some mail back soon, Japan is +9 hours ahead of the UK so hopefully I will hear something within the next few hours.

You have to pay a bank fee for the wire transfer (around $35 if I recall), and shipping cost of around $100 or so, but as I remember there was no tax. England might be different.

PM Saffron Shrimp, he ordered a J-Custom from there.

Expect to pay AT LEAST 20% on top of the price. If Customs & Excise catch you it can quite easily spiral up to 50%.

Your best bet is to either
a)Go to Japan yourself. Totally recommend it.

b) Call C & E and say EXACTLY what you are ordering, how much it will be, how much the shipping is, etc.
When me and my father ordered tachos and speedos for his kit car we paid different import duties on each depending on what they measured.
A Made - In - Japan flying V, as stupid as it may sound, may incur more duty than a Strat. Be aware that maximum duty can come to about 40% in very extreme cases. Call so you know.

Also, remember that with the exception of the wire transfer charge, everything is then taxed - i.e
Cost of guitar + shipping + import duty ALL TOGETHER is then taxed at 17.5% before it even enters the country.

We get bummed in this country. This is what we get for creating the modern world?

Hope that helps.

urrgh that’s not sounding good. Will have to work it out, think I would still pay 50% of the price though without much hesitation. Any more and I may have to have a think.

thank alot though!

£465?

Lets say, for the sake of argument, £40 s+h, plus 20% Customs and Excise duty, that gives us about £600. Then add 17.5% VAT on top, and that gives you VERY ROUGHLY £700-710. Thats off-the-wall maths, but it gives you a rough idea of how it pans out.

Find out cost of shipping and also whether your band will charge you for a wire transfer. I don't imagine they would if its a big bank like RBS, HBOS, etc. Depends on what a wire transfer is in american terms. (Wikipedia, I know...)

Hope that helps

Add 21,000 Yen to the Price of the Guitar, Plus bank transer fee and Customs or duties if they apply. I didn't have to pay for any customs and everyone else I spoke too didn't either. But Im not sure about England.
