Wow, that kicked ass.
The new singer is way more powerful than the original one, though I don't know that I could make it through an entire album of nothing but his wail. He does seem to have more variety available, though, so perhaps the next album will have more varied vocal work. You don't really get a good look at the RC7 in that video, due to the editing. Graphic doesn't really jump out at you from afar, though. But then, if the guitar plays and sounds great, who really gives a damn anyway? Rusty's playing was great on this song, though I could have done with a little less neo-classicism in the solo, since none of the rest of the song is like that.

Yeah, that bit about the solo I agree with completely, JP.
It was kind of incongruous. I was even hyping it up to my girl, saying, "Watch this! It'll probablky kick ass!" and it turned out to be a kinda weakish Yngwie impersonation (not saying it wasn't cool sounding, or he was bad. It's a great solo. Just didn't really "grab" me, in the context of such a kick ass song).

he's solo's are more shredding improvisations. Well actually he has some really good stuff there too... but its alot of shred stuff mostly, and you know when you are listenning to a song and than comes the solo you are expecting to a solo that will relate to the song, and in that album that happends rarely. That is by the way, why i dont really like listenning to pantera or to dimebag, the solo's just doesnt feels right to me, you can cross me on that but i really dont love the guy's solo's... but i know he's a great guitar player(was, i guess), no doubt, just not my taste. To my opinion petrucci really gives what rusty lacks... he is shredding, but it always sounds unique and although its alot of notes, it sounds like a santence.. not just a billion notes per sec(oh where did i hear that expression before ), it sounds more original to me. |

A little bit of that high wail? Fucking killer. The verses in their entirety in that high wail? Please stop now. It's just too much, and it kills it for me in the same way as the metalcore bands that scream the entire song. Too much of anything gets on my nerves.
Other than that, cool tune. I was expecting the prog wank fest, but it seems Rusty is preferring to kick teeth down throat. Which is always good in my book. ![]() The solo was a bit much, but hey, it's Rusty. I'm expecting that. ![]() That tone is killer. What is he playing through these days?

IMO the best solo on the Outworld album is the solo from Riders. None of the rest of the solos are actually that good.
As far as the singing, I much prefer operatic vocals to Dethklok-esque growls.
