I've played both (own one of them) and I'd go with the 1527. I'm not much of an EMG fan (I don't hate them, but I don't particularly like them either). The 1527 is much much more comfortable in my opinion. I might like to get a Hellraiser sometime, though.

YOU NEED MOAR POWAAAR.

Big necks aren't for everyone, but after a few months of not playing an Ibanez 7 I cannot put into words how unpleasant it was trying to negotiate the tongue-depresser thickness. So I ordered a Loomis. I win.

Audiocide is on a distinguished road
The Schecter is by no means a bad guitar, but it's the Ibanez any day of the week for me. I just love the ease of playing on that guitar.

I'd really like an HR, I love the look of them & prefer fixed bridges but I just can't get along with the fat necks on Schecters, i've tried a few different models too just to see if the necks vary but still no luck.
So my vote's for the 1527.

Is there any sort of pattern of hand size and neck preference around here? I have fairly large hands, but not monster-paws like, say, Loomis, and I can't stand playing Ibanez necks because my hand cramps up and I can't get a good grip... and other people find the fat necks uncomfortable and can't play well on lower strings with them. Any thoughts?

Jeff

I like the fatter necks, and I'd say I've got pretty average sized hands. My problem with Ibanez is that I feel like I'm going to break the neck off -- I have the same feeling when playing my Jackson as well. I know it's highy unlikely that i actually will, but I get that feeling while playing it. I do play an acoustic guitar with a large neck much more frequently than my electrics, though, so I have have gotten quite used to it.

I dunno about the neck, though. My hands tend to sweat a lot so they stick to the finish they use on the necks, a problem which I don't have with Ibanez.

I'm not for or against either, I'm just spouting off some thoughts about them.

I would get the 1527. Dude prestige guitar and if you upgrade the pups - its killer! The slim neck and amazing RG7 shaped body make it a better buy should you be looking to get that.

I have large hands and find the neck on the Hellraiser to be nice, but after playing it for a while, my hand started getting tired from the extra wide neck. Maybe I wasnt used to it. But no such problems on my Ibanez.

schecter will sound and play nicer, but, no trem and the resale value sucks cuz everyone is ibby crazy, i had a 007 elite , only reason i got rid of it is cuz the ibbys had trems which i want and the s body is comfortable, if your more concerned about how you look and players view you, i'd take the ibby, if you want a quality instrument at the same price that will exceed, get the schecter
