Bass strings vs guitar strings? (for the low B string)
well I know that bass strings are more expensive & longer, apparently...
Are there any other differences, especially tone-wise??? I've read in this forum that they're double wound instead of single wound (like guitar strings). Does this affect the tone at all? In the shithole I live it's hard to find single guitar strings with gauge .060 - .070 and the only way is buying single bass strings. My point is, should I keep on buying single bass strings (if there is no difference at all) or is it that I'm missing the benefits of a guitar string all that time, and I should go on-line shopping? Help pople! ![]() thanx in advance! this forum rules the universe! P.S.: is the ball at the end of a guitar string (a .060 for instance) smaller than the ball of a bass string of the same gauge? The stupid thing doesn't fit in the hole and it hangs out! yes dumb question I know... ![]() |

Personally bass strings sound a little bit duller to me. Not as much high end snap/sparkle as a guitar string. When I was experimenting with guages that high I found it harder to get a sharp palm mute sound then with the regular single wound guitar strings.
Yes bass string ball ends should be bigger. I think you can order those gauge strings easily online for guitar. I think juststrings has them but im not sure as I usually dont order gauges that high.
Try to exclude the possibility of suffering which the order of nature and the existence of free-wills involve, and you find that you have excluded life itself.

The guitar strings will have more clearer tone plus better intonation. Buy singles from an online retailer like muscian freind. Easy and cheap!
