_velkan is a jewel in the rough
Question 7 String in a band...

Here is what is troubling my mind...

If i have a 7 string, and my bandmate a regular 6 string, and me using the regular tuning for 7 string and he using regular for 6 string... if i play something using 7th and 6th strings will he able to play along, without sounding "funny" or somehow dissonate??

or if one guitardude uses a 7string, the other one has to use one too??

thanks

he can tune down or play an octave up. 7th fret on his 6th string is a B as well.

my band mate and i both play sevens, but he'll do a 7 string power chord and i'll do some sort of 6 string chord instead and the result is a powerful, full-sounding chord extension - not the monotony that powerchords sometimes have.

worked fine for us....

i'm not in that band anymore, but it works fine...no reason it wouldn't, as long as both guitars have their intonation set up properly.

I actually kind of like it - it forces the two of you to play complimentary parts, rather than mirroring each other exactly.

TheMasterplan will become famous soon enough
You should check out Spawn Of Possession, that band uses one seven [tuned standard] and one six [also tuned standard] and they seem to make out just fine.

That's what we do in my band... sounds good...

The second guitar player finally decided to buy a 7, but not having it at first has made the two of them *I play bass in this band* come up with alternatives to just playing the same rhythm. It's definatly got a unique sound to it.
