The 7 string Strat/Tele project needs some input

Don't worry no money is being asked for nor are we anywhere near the order stage. We still are a ways away from those steps.

Here's what I would like to hear out all of you that have any interest in this project at all, even if you don't plan on ordering one in the first batch or want to contribute to the start up fee. If this project gets green lighted I really want the product that comes of it to be as good as possible and be something that seven string players want. As opposed to what some suit in office thinks we want.

So here's the input I would like to hear out you. What kind of nut width do you wantand what sort of back contour interests you.

In so far as nut width how wide do you think it should be? the JP7 is 1 15/16" or 1.9375". Ibanez necks are 48mm or 1.89" Carvin necks are 1.91". So what's good for you guys?

USACG - Neck Contour Options Here's USACG web page for their back contours which shapes interest you. Thickness right now isn't on the table so just let me know which shapes are more appealing to you.

So let me know what you think.

The only proof he needed for the existance of God was music.

I would want a U shape personally, but I think A C shape would give a more traditional feel.

I'd like a U also, but a C or assymetrical would seem more appropriate.

The but width on my Ibby is nice, although the width for a Carvin seems like a "happy medium"

I'd go with a Carvin-ish nut width and (as you may know) I think the asymetric shape was made for the 7-string!

i strongly recommend 1 7/8". that is the English-units equivalent of the Ibanez 48 mm (1.875" vs. 1.89"), and it has become the standard for "normal" 7-string nut spacing. some are wider, like the JPM, and some are narrower, like the short scale-length Les Paul 7s, but 1 7/8" is what the Squier and other 7-string strats use.

the Carvin 1.9" would be so barely larger that i don't think most people would notice, so it could work instead. but i wouldn't go any wider than that, or the necks will start to feel different from what the huge majority of 7-string players are used to.

My vote would be for C shaped.

As for nut width I'm pretty flexible but prefer a wider neck for my big paws.

- C shaped preference. Not against "U" shape too.
- Nut width : 1 7/8 (as refered by Scott_from_actual_time) But i'm really flexible on this since i haven't tried all guitars out there. But i have one Squier and i know i'm comfortable with it.

I say: We're looking to get as close as possible to a 7-string version of a Fender Strat/Tele, make it as close as possible to a Fender Strat/Tele

Thought it seemed like a no-brainer

The reason other 7-string Strat copies suck is because they try to "improve" or modify the design.

that's exactly what these numbers are. 1 7/8" 7-string nut width has the same string spacing as a 1 5/8" Strat nut (within 0.01"), and the Carvin 1.9" is the same as a wider Strat nut.

BigM555, i have big paws too. the string spacing with 1 7/8" nut width works fine for me, but anything less is too small for my fingers.
