EMG-707 in RG1527

Anyone seen this? Had a butcher's hook on the EMG website and it says coz its in a bass pup housing it wont be a direct replacement for a normal 7-string pup.

Routing is involved for any EMG. They are much larger in size compared to normal pickups. So if you want to install the 707 or any other 7 string emg, you have to get someone (or youself) to route/enlarge the pickup cavities.

Thats all I know unfortunately, I am not an emg fan.

He is correct, you will have to enlarge the pickup route in order to accomdate the EMG,

HOWEVER....

Currently Seymour Duncan is about to make a Blackout 7 pickup, it compares favorably to EMG, and they even have one endorser (Dino Cazares), while it is the same size an as EMG 7 string pup, there is talk of making a normal sized one. If you want your voice heard on this issue go here.

dammit!! I love the tone of the EMG in my les paul and want to get the same sort of sound from my Ibanez. Any idea what passive pickups (duncans or dimarzios) mite give me a similar tone? cheers.

lol not a chance! for a start i dont know what im doing, second i might change my mind afterwards, and third i dont even have the guitar yet! but yeah those are the same pickups i was gonna go for. how do you go about routing it?

Either a Dremmel or a proper router if you've got access to one. Alternatively, Dimarzio's new D-Activator's are supposed to sound like the best of EMG's and passives combined.
