Got my new ESP SRC-7 In Today (!)
What a glorious instrument. As many of you know, I love the ESP Stephen Carpenter models. I've had three of the LTDs 607 ones, loved them all. I was content having my SC607B be my 2nd in command behind my Rico Jr Custom, but then I saw an original SRC7 with Duncans and a blank ebony fretboard for a killer price so I jumped on it.
Differences between the SRC7 and the SC607(b): 1) Weighs much less. Very very light-weight, like a Universe. It's an alder body so that's probably why. Super balanced. 2) Speaking of a UV, the mother-of-pearl or whatever binding on this just exactly like that found on a UV777BK, very classy. The SC607 has white plastic binding on the neck/headstock only (black on the SC607 mahogany one). 3) This guitar stock came with a JB-59-ESP Single. Previous owner swapped the JB with an Invader. I didn't mind this since the alder/ebony board/maple neck-thru/Invader combo works like a charm on my Rico Jr Vixen 7. There's some very bizarre sounding tones on this thing. I think it might be wired wrong, position 4 sounds like its out of phase, not a lot of volume. The neck single coil sounds fucking sweet for cleans though. The middle 59 is surprisingly usable as well. 4) Blank ebony fretboard (my main motivation for getting this), I'm a sucker for these. 5) The neck profile seems slimmer than on the newer ones, which was a shock. It could be in my head, but thats how I percieve it. Anyways, I cleaned up the fretboard, polished the body, threw on some new D'Addarios, and now I'm in business. Sounds and plays fucking AWESOME. Just as well as the SC607B, but even smoother and better. It's actually very similar to the ESP Horizon NT-II I had, but in a 7-string. Just a different feel than the SC607 series. Tonewise sounds very different than my Rico Jr despite the identical woods, pickups and components. The only thing different about this is my Rico has no tone knob. This guitar sounds considerably brighter than the Rico though. Both sound great. This thing shreds! It's a shame these are so rare, this is a really special guitar ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

That looks badass. I like the binding around the neck/head.
It looks like it would weigh a ton lol It must mess with you when you go to pick it up. How tall are the frets? |
