Intonation... holy un-funness batman!
I play a UV777BK, and when I got it, I knew the intonation was off, but I decided to just leave it alone for the time being.
Well, I just changed strings (d'addario 9's... low B is a .54). I don't know what gauge the original B was, but it wasn't a .54. Aside from the trem pulling too high after the new strings were on, I knew the intonation would be way off. So after a few turns to get the trem back on plane, I started intonating. There is no tool for the Edge Pro as far as I'm aware, so I used the "chopsticks" method... one tiny little wrench in each hand. One to loosen the saddle and the other to push it back, then tighten it back up (I was sharp across the board). What a nightmare. Although I confess it got easier as I worked my way through it. In any event, I happened to have ordered some new strings before I did this (GHS boomers). They're all the same windings as the D'addarios, EXCEPT the damn low B, which is a .56, which means I'm going to be off again. Do you guys re-intonate every time you change strings? I've also got a rather annoying buzz in the upper registers of the high B, which is weird given that my action is still slightly above the minimum 1.6mm clearance at the 24th fret. Ugh. |

Your intonation wouldn't be causing fret buzzes. You probably have a high fret or something if it's happening that far up. I've never really had a problem with intonation, my guitars come intonated, and even when I change string gauges it seems fine to me, then again I don't have a strobe tuner or anything.

These certainly can be a pain to intonate, but if you do enough of them you develop little tricks to speed up the process, like do your intonation last thing while you have the trem in it's blocked 'neutral' resting position before you readjust the claw tension. More importantly, you can get pretty close using a normal chromatic tuner, but for the utmost in accuracy, these should be done with a strobe tuner.
Sounds like your neck could also use a truss rod readjustment, or else you either have a few high frets or a slight rise in the fingerboard tounge.

I remember my 7 buzzed when I got it. I just got the guy at the store to adjust the truss rod.

The difference between a 54 and a 56 is not enough to make the intonation off to the point that you might see a serious issue. Generally, a switch from 9s to 10s doesn't even need an intonation adjustment.
