Because either flame or quilt maple look much better under a trans finish than just about anything else in the universe

Trans on other woods can look cool, but nothing beats maple. And if you're having the body built and don't want to alter the tone, just have a veneer put on (maple tends to be very bright). Not sure how much you know about this stuff, but all of the J-Customs pictured have flame maple tops.

yea i will agree maple tops look very nice, but thats just not what I have planned for guitar. However I will have something else with a top on it one day. I am really diggin dudes Ash ESP. I have pretty much decided that is what Im gonna do.
