Really, I pretty heavily prefer the tone of 11s as opposed to anything else. I've never tried 12s, but I'm about to. Thin strings sound... well... thin.

11-58 or 10-59 for me (depending on whether I buy Ernie Ball of D'Addarios). My favorite thickness for the low B is about 58-60. The other guitarist in my band uses 10-56 gauge strings for his guitar.

I could see maybe going up to 65-68. But 68 would be the absolute thickest I would consider going. The reason I haven't done it is because I've never had any problems with 58 or 59 gauge strings. When I first got my guitar, it had a 52 gauge string on for the low B and I thought that was too floppy, so I bought a set of 10-56 and that was a lot lot better, but I wanted just a little more tightness, so I bought the 11-58 set and that's almost perfect.

I used to be a heavy string maniac, using sets of 12s, 13s, 14s, and even 15s on my six-strings. My pair of 15s had something like a 54 or 56 for the low E. I stopped doing that and went to 11s (and sometimes 10s). Anything less than 10 is too thin and just sounds really empty and... not good. I don't like the sound of 8s or 9s.

I use 10-46 + 52 for my low B, tried a 56 once but was too tight for my liking.

axechain is headed in the right direction.
i`ve used 10-60 ghs strings but now my set is 9-42+50(52) for B and it slays the tension is right, look at the thinner direction

Elixir 010-052's and a 068 B. I like it very much, though the 068 isn't as djenty as I'd like it to be. I'm considering trying a 065 bass string next.

I think I'll go with 010-046's and a ~062 B-string on my 27" seven when I get it.

I currently use 10-68s. The 68 for the 7th string has just started feeling really odd recently, gonna shift to something lighter.

Brord is a jewel in the rough
I'm using 11's with a 70 as 7th string, but I downtune one whole step (ADGCFad). I just really like the tension it gives me and the clarity, also it provides that low A string this clean tone I just love, when u hit the open A string it's bell like clear and clean. Someday I must have a 27" scale for even more tension.

Kop-ik-win, munt-jij-verliest.

I definately prefer the tone of thicker strings, but thin strings do have really nice attack. I'm hoping when I get a longer scale guitar that I can compromise between the 2.
