I'm no fan of enormous strings.
The set i've got on my RG2027 at the moment is exactly the gauges you've listed there Nick(9-12-16-24-32-44-58) and that sounds and feels great to me for a B standard tuning.
I hate stupidly high tension with a passion.A string needs to be able to oscillate sufficiently to ring out and sustain for any length of time.I just find that huge strings (unless you're tuning them very low,or playing a bass)fade out way to soon and have quite a dead sound.
Each to their own i suppose

So what exactly do you tune to with those strings?

C below the low B Evil to the extreme!

Seriously though, I actually use a standart .009 set tuned to B. Anything thicker than .054 gets too muddy and boomy IMO. So I just accept the fact that it's not going to be as tight as the other 3 wound strings

10-70 tuned to A, just gives that A string the extra tightness for rythm playing. The D is a 52, so it is a massive jump, but it works well.

Yeah, 52 = 68, so a 70 isn't a stretch. It's the rest of the set that might be out of whack a little bit.

I disagree. I don't think its nonsense. I think this is a good forum to pass on possibly helpful information. If someone doesnt care, thats fine, but I know thanks to people on here I got turned on to it, and it has yielded amazing results. I still play with unmatched sets, it's not a big deal, but my guitar that has optimum tension plays and sounds better.

If I can help someone else try this stuff out and improve their playing/tone, as people like WayneCustom7 and Mind Riot have for me, no harm there. If it's not for you, that's cool too I just think this is still a subject most people don't know about, so it's good to get it out there.

I use ernie balls not slinky at all and a .065 bass string. This what a fucking terrible setup lol. The 2 higher strings buzz on the frets, the .065 sounds ok. i wouldn't mind getting an actual guitar string of that size lol. Though, my lower strings are still a bit floppy, i just want them tough and not floppy at all! I tune to ADGCFAD by the way

I used to use 9-42 with a 56, but I find the tone is far superior with 10-66. There is a VERY significant interaction with the bass frequencies and tension, and you just can't get tension from skinny strings. On the 9 string I'm hoping to build, I will use 9's, but I'm also tuning major thirds (higher tensions than normal) AND it will be a 28 inch to 30 inch fan, so very baritone as well.
