I'm refinishing my RG7420....
and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a finish. I have the body about 90% stripped now, and the wood under that lovely Magenta Crush paint is actually fairly decent much to my surprise. With that said, I was thinking about leaving it somewhat natural with maybe just some type of clear coat, but since this is my first time trying anything like this I would appreciate any feedback from those who have done this before.
Any tips and pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Pete |

Glad to hear the wood underneath was of good visual quality! Unfortunetly I suck at lacquer/staining furniture, so I wouldn't even try on mine!!

Thanks. Yeah, I was a little surprised that the wood looked as good as it did. Well, I hope in the end I won't regret starting this project. Although, anything will be better than having to look at the Magenta Crush.

looks a lot like mine
![]() ![]() however, i didn't refinish mine, so i won't be of much help. you could always check out some furniture refinishing websites for help if you just want to stain/seal it to preserve that natural look.
I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate. We'll cross the streams. |

I hope Ed doesn't mind, but here's a pic of a stripped UV I sold him, which he put back together and stained. I love the look of this guitar...

Nice! How about a 3-tone sunburst?
I've always liked pearl colors. Ice Blue, Candy Apple Red, etc. A White Pearl would be cool. Leon's is cool just the way it is. Natural Finish. ![]() Keith, Nice UV ^ |

Well I ended up leaving it natural with just a few coats of clear semi-gloss polyurethane. The pictures I attached really don't show off the guitar, but I will say it does not look anywhere near as good as Leon's, sadly.... But it's not pink anymore and I did a fairly good job with the sanding, so I think it came out decent for the most part.
